How to Use Gratitude to Get Clients By Jennifer Davey
Business Coach & Marketing Strategist of JJS Coaching

When getting clients, gratitude is a valuable but often overlooked tool. If you want to increase the size of your client base, being in a constant state of gratitude can have tremendous effects.

How to Use Gratitude to Get Clients

A long time ago, I made a discovery about the powerful effects of gratitude in everyday life. Ever since, Iíve focused on being always grateful for the people, things, and opportunities available to me. This is one of the reasons why I wake up in a state of happiness every morning. And Iíve found that this gratitude brings more opportunities, which is why I set aside a few minutes every night to think about whom and what I have to be thankful for.

And when building a client base, gratitude is a very important tool. With gratitude, it becomes easier to appreciate how wonderful the people around you are, and how fantastic your opportunities can be. And appreciating all of these things will only bring more opportunities your way.

For instance, people like to work with people and businesses they Know, Like, and Trust. When you express your gratitude, you help build relationships with potential clients. It makes them like you better, and it makes them feel important, which increases the trust factor. It also makes them feel valued and relevant, which will increase your networking opportunities and cause clients to send more work your way. When you have this state of gratitude, giving becomes easier. And as most smart businesspeople know, giving creates value.

If you are overloaded with personal and work obligations and you come across a client who is frustrating and difficult, it can make you feel a little cross. In such a situation, itís easy to fall into the type of attitude that will only chase away current and potential clients.

But when you remember to have gratitude, it has positive effects on your mood, and makes you more appreciative of the things around you. This joy will be contagious in the people you work with. Being grateful and continually giving thanks for your opportunities and successes, youíll attract even more opportunities and successes. Your attitudes and behaviors will inspire people, and they will be motivated to provide more value for you and for themselves, which helps everyone.

In other words, in business, having gratitude is profitable. It earns clients and referrals, and it encourages client loyalty.

To give you a better sense of how to harness the power of gratitude, hereís an enjoyable fieldwork exercise.

For the next week, set aside some time each night to make a list of five things youíre grateful for. They could be big things such as your family or your friends, or they could just be small, simple things, like a common courtesy that someone showed you during your day.

Then, pay close attention to how this awareness enhances your life over the course of the week, and watch for effects in your business.

If you do this fieldwork, Iíd love to hear about your results! Please feel free to contact me to tell me how it goes.
